Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins First Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts
A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.
His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.
The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent saved four initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he earned the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
